Diagnostics, Microbial Detection, and Homeland Security Past Projects Designed a portable 8-Channel Bioterrorism Agent detection system with field replaceable sensor cartridges. Designed a Microfluidic Cartridge and Optical Detection System for a Bioterrorism Agent detection instrument. Performed complete optical system analysis and tolerancing for a cancer detection system. Recommendations and design changes led to significant improvements prior to full production. System has been FDA approved and is now commercially available. Designed a Microfluidic Cartridge and Optical Detection System for a Bioterrorism Agent detection instrument. Automated, Miniaturized and Packaged a Biowarfare Agent Detection System for the US military. Designed and constructed an high-resolution large-area fluorescence imaging system for the detection of microbial colonies for a variety of markets. System will soon be commercially available. Designed an inexpensive instrument to perform quality control on sample slides in pathology laboratories. Designed and constructed a prototype fluorescence-based bacterial detection system for the point-of-care and diagnostics market. Designed a fluorescence-based hand-held microbial detection system with Echo Technologies, an R&D company. With the appropriate chemistry, this system is capable of uniquely identifying the presence of up to five biological warfare agents. Developed Fiber-Optic Biosensors utilizing near-infrared fluorescence and analyte-specific enzymes and antibodies for in vitro detection of seafood-borne salmonella and vibrio toxins. Conducted extensive research on the use of commercially available near-infrared laser dyes for use as fluorescent markers in biologically transduced sensing schemes. |
